The North Melbourne Football Club is mourning the passing of Team of the Century player Ted Jarrard this morning.

The club passes on its deepest sympathies to the Jarrard family.

Ted joined North Melbourne from West Melbourne and was a tough, uncompromising defender.

He was a strong mark with a long driving kick and helped form one of the best back lines in the VFL at that time. His achievements and skill were later recognised when he was selected on the half-back line in the North Melbourne Team of the Century.

Ted’s strong straight-ahead style of play would unsettle many forwards, a talent he so ably demonstrated in North’s first grand final appearance in 1950.

He also played in the 1950 and 1953 carnival sides for Victoria but missed out in 1951 due to a broken collar bone.

Ted played until he was 40 and coached VFA sides Camberwell, Fitzroy Rovers, Jeparit and also in the Sunday League.
