SYDNEY Swans forward Barry Hall says his teammates are steeling themselves for a taxing clash against the hard-running Western Bulldogs at Canberra’s Manuka Oval on Saturday.

The Bulldogs have won their past three clashes against the Swans and enter the game in top form after narrowly failing to inflict Geelong’s first defeat of the season last weekend.

“The way they play their footy is pretty testing on the body; they like to run and you’ve got to chase them at the end of the game,” Hall said on Wednesday.

“It’s going to be a pretty daunting task for us.

“We haven’t won away yet and I guess you call Canberra an away game, so it’s a big challenge for us.”

While the Dogs are in good touch, the Swans aren’t exactly struggling after recording a 55-point win against Port Adelade last weekend.

An eight-goal opening quarter was the catalyst for the comfortable victory and Hall said the Swans needed to reproduce that form across 120 minutes at Manuka Oval.

“The times they’ve beaten us, they’ve blown us away in a quarter. We just need to match them in that area and put four quarters together,” he said.

“We haven’t done that in the past and if we do that, we’ll go a long way, but it hasn’t happened yet.”

Hall’s own form has mirrored that of his team, with the big forward producing two of his best games of the year in the past fortnight.

He booted five goals from six kicks against West Coast in round nine and had a hand in five of the Swans’ first-quarter majors against the Power.

“I’m just getting involved in the game a little bit more and not being so one-dimensional at full-forward,” he said.

“I’m running up the ground a little bit and using the second and third efforts which have been an asset in the past for me.”

After missing three weeks with a groin injury sustained in round two, Hall has regained peak fitness but at 32 and in his 14th AFL season, he’s not taking it for granted.

“In terms of fitness, it’s really hard to gauge from week to week, but in terms of the body and pulling up and soreness, I feel great.

“Ask me in a few weeks and I’ll probably tell you a different story, but I’m feeling good at the moment.”
