Nigel Smart, the first Crow to play 250 AFL games, is one of five new inductees of the South Australian football Hall of Fame.

Smart, an inaugural member of the Adelaide AFL squad in 1991, played 278 games for Adelaide from 1991 to 2004. The first Crows player chosen in an All-Australian side (in 1991), Smart also was named in the team in 1993 and 1998. He played in the two Adelaide premierships (1997 and 1998) and represented South Australia eight times. Smart was recruited from South Adelaide, where he played 78 SANFL games.

He is now a member of the Adelaide Football Club Board.

“I had not even thought about it,” Smart said. “So I am a little struck by it – and very grateful.”

Smart is now one of seven former Crows players in the Hall of Fame, joining Mark Bickley, Chris McDermott, Bruce Lindsay, Andrew Jarman, Shaun Rehn and Darren Jarman.

The other new Hall of Fame inductees announced on Thursday night were Peter Woite, Keith Thomas, Geoff Kingston and Doug Thomas.
