The Collingwood Football Club will this week celebrate the magnificent career of James Clement who retired at the end of the 2007 season.

Collingwood will pay tribute to Clement with a ‘Lap of Honour’ before the bounce of the ball at the MCG for the Collingwood v St Kilda blockbuster this Saturday night, 9 August 2008.

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire said, “James Clement is a one of Collingwood’s greatest champions and one of the finest defenders of his generation.

"I am delighted he has accepted the club’s offer of a lap of honour this week as it gives all Collingwood fans and the football public the opportunity to celebrate his wonderful career.”

Clement played 146 games for Collingwood, was selected in the All Australian teams of 2004 and 2005, won the Bob Rose Trophy for Best Player Finals in 2002 and also represented Australia in International Rules.

In 2004 he became the first full back at Collingwood since Jack Regan in 1936 to win the Copeland Trophy. In 2005 he won again and then finished a narrow second the following year.

Clement captained the club many times in the absence of Nathan Buckley and became the quintessential, modern attacking defender.

Clement is also an Ambassador for the St Vincent’s Institute, a community partner of the Collingwood Football Club. As part of the activities at the game Clement will be promoting awareness of the St Vincent’s Institute to raise funds and support for diabetes research.
