2008 started with our team claiming the pre-season NAB Cup.

It has continued with our players determined to prove they have what it takes to succeed at the highest level.

We have our eyes firmly fixed on winning a premiership. That is what we all want to see. From the Board down, there is a strong feeling of unity and purpose to deliver to you our loyal members and supporters what we have waited so long for.

To succeed in football today requires competitiveness in all areas, both on and off-fi eld. When compared to other teams in the league, St Kilda’s total revenue ranks #15 of the 16 teams. We rank ninth in the league in memberships. We have the lowest number of staff of any club in the league and rank 13th in football department spending. To change this we need your help.

In 2008 we have committed to increasing our investment in the football department to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for our playing group and training staff that ensures we have the best preparation possible every time we take to the field.

The focus for clubs now is to gain a competitive edge in the areas in which the AFL do not restrict. Additional player development and medicalstaff, facilities and equipment for training and rehabilitation is where our competitive edge can be gained.

To succeed in 2008 and beyond, we must purchase additional training and rehabilitation equipment. These improvements may provide the 1 or 2% increase that keeps our players fit and on track for the last week of September, when it counts.

For example we need more massage tables, new marking bags, tackling bags, a 2 way walkie talky system, measuring wheels and the list goes on. These equipment needs, while essential, add an additional cost to the club which we must balance with the need for personnel.

That is why I am asking you this year to consider participating in our raffle.

Your participation not only puts you in the draw to win some exceptional prizes but the money the club generates from you buying tickets will give us additional capacity to improve the facilities for our playing group.

Put quite simply, better facilities and equipment will improve our capacity to train and keep players on the field which will give us the best chance to succeed. We can win if you will help us now.

We have a great prize included as part of the major raffl e from one of our sponsors.
