It is not every day that an eight-year-old boy gets to meet one of his football idols and have a kick on Patersons Oval, but that is exactly the opportunity Boyanup Primary School student Lachy was given today.

West Coast Eagles fanatic and the face of this year’s Telethon campaign, Lachy got the chance to have a kick with Eagles superstar Nic Naitanui as part of the lead up to Telethon’s major fundraising weekend on November 13 and 14.

Lachy was diagnosed at age four with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (a form of leukaemia) and underwent extensive chemotherapy treatment for six months at PMH.

Although he relapsed in April 2008 and underwent another twelve months of chemotherapy,  Lachy is now in remission and doing very well.

Eight Eagles players including Mark Nicoski, Chris Masten, Will Schofield, Daniel Kerr, Brad Ebert, Luke Shuey and Brett Jones will join Naitanui in the Telethon phone room next weekend, with Nic strongly encouraging all West Coast members and supporters to dig deep and get behind the cause.

‘Telethon does such a great job in helping out kids all across Western Australia and I think it’s really important for everyone to do their bit and help out,’ he said.

Since the club formed an official partnership with Telethon in 2008, West Coast has been able to contribute over $400,000 to the children’s charity, with all proceeds going towards helping improve the lives of children and young people throughout Western Australia.
