WESTERN Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade has called on the AFL to introduce  technology to aid in some goal umpiring decisions, following a controversial last quarter major awarded to Crow Jason Porplyzia in the Bulldogs’ nine-point loss at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.

Porplyzia was awarded a goal from a desperate scramble in the goal square, but replays suggested the ball had come from the hand of opposition player Jason Akermanis.

The goal was awarded following all-in consultation between boundary and field umpires.

“No doubt, no doubt,” Eade said after the game when asked about the need for technology to be used to assist umpires.

“I’d like to have a look at that one again. Talking to Jason he believed he got kicked on the arm and it was through.

“I certainly would hate to be playing for a top-four or top-eight spot and have that cost us today. It hasn’t … it might have cost us the game, that’s questionable. (In any case) we’re safe in third so it’s not going to hurt us.

“But it’s something the AFL has got to look at.

“Whether it’s time keepers or whether it’s goal umpires, things that you know you can get right, things that you can control, I think you’ve got to get right.”
