LIKE all his teammates, Jess Sinclair wore a broad smileafter the Kangaroos’ win over the Bulldogs and admitted to feeling a deep senseof satisfaction at being part of a winning team in Glenn Archer’s 300th match.

“It was no secret that we really wanted to get up for Glenntoday [Sunday], he means so much to us, and I think our start really set usup,” Sinclair said of their eight-goal opening term.

“Everyone was just really switched on and for Drewy [DrewPetrie] to kick six goals in the first quarter was just outstanding; we’re overthe moon.”

Sinclair said the players had remained focused on the taskduring the week as Archer’s achievements were widely lauded in the media, butas happy as he was to come away with the right result for the club legend, hemaintained it was all business after the opening bounce.

“We tried not to get too caught up in all that,” the28-year-old said. “We realised we still had to play a game of footy and we justhad to make sure that we didn’t let emotion creep too much into it.

“It does play a part but you can’t just be thinking; ‘we’vegot to do it for Arch, we’ve got to do it for Arch’.

“You’ve still got to stick to the structure and the thingsthat we’ve been doing throughout the year that have been winning us games.

“We like it in close and that’s how we wanted to keep it.

“We knew if we were going to play free-flowing footy againstthe Doggies they would probably cut us up because they’re a bit quicker thanus.

“We kept it in close, created as many stoppages as we couldand lowered our eyes going into the forward line which was something we didn’tdo last week against Adelaide.”

The win gets the Roos’ season headed back in the rightdirection after hitting a speed hump against the Crows with the four pointsmoving them back into the eight, one game clear of Adelaide.

“It was a vital game for both clubs today, but even thoughwe’re on eight wins now, we know there’s still a hell of a long way to go,” hesaid.

“There are a lot of teams that are bunched on seven, eightor nine wins. We’ve just got to stick to what we’ve been doing and keep movingforward.”
