LAST TIME THEY MET
The Lions were determined to atone for their embarrassing 93-point defeat inflicted by Geelong earlier in the season.

After taking a narrow lead into quarter time, the Lions exploded with nine goals to four over the next two quarters to take control of the game.

Four final quarter goals saw the Lions run out comfortable 43-point winners over a depleted Cats outfit that was without a number of stars including Brownlow Medallist Gary Ablett.

Ash McGrath played one of the finest matches of his career, providing terrific run and attack from defence in a near best-on-ground performance.

Brownlow Medal Votes: 3 - D. Rich (BL), 2 - A. McGrath (BL), 1 - J. Brown (BL).

FAST FOOTY FACTS
The Lions were held to their lowest ever score since the 1997 merger when these two sides met back in Round 5 last year at Skilled Stadium. The Lions kicked only 5.3 (33) and eventually lost by 93 points. In fact, Geelong have held the Lions to their three lowest ever scores.

The Lions hold an impressive win/loss ratio against the Cats having won the first 10 encounters between these two teams following the Club's merger in 1997. However, Geelong has won six of their past seven matches against the Lions by an average margin of 51 points.

Geelong Brownlow Medallist Gary Ablett has averaged more than 32 disposals in his past four matches against the Lions.

Lions full-forward Brendan Fevola has booted a total of 599 goals throughout his career (575 with Carlton and 24 with the Lions). He needs one more goal to become just the 27th player in the history of the game to reach 600 goals.

The Lions had a season-high 11 goal-kickers last Saturday night against Fremantle. It surpassed the team's previous best of eight achieved in both Round 1 and Round 4.

The Lions have spent just 37.7 per cent of game time in front on the scoreboard so far this season to rank 14th in the AFL ahead of only Adelaide (26.2%) and Richmond (16%).

Geelong are currently the highest scoring team in the competition with 857 points from seven matches (average of 122.4 points per game).

The Lions have had 14 forced interchanges through injury so far in 2010 which is second only to Port Adelaide's 15 in the entire AFL competition.

The Lions have four former Geelong Falcons U18 players in skipper Jonathan Brown, Matt Maguire, Amon Buchanan and draftee Callum Bartlett.
