Matthew Knights sacked as Essendon Bombers coach

Following his shock sacking from Essendon, Matthew Knights says he is disappointed with the decision but is taking his time to consider his future options. Less than 12 hours after the final siren blew the Bomber’s announced the axing of their coach that may cost them $1 million in severance. The payout will b equal to two years salary but in the long run, it may have cost the Bomber’s more too keep Knight’s after their terrible year and dwindling crowd and membership numbers.
Fremantle’s Anthony Morabito the final rising star

After a stand out game on the weekend, Fremantle’s Anthony Morabito is the final AFL Rising Star nominee for 2010. He gathered 18 possessions and one goal in the Docker’s six-point victory over Carlton on Friday night. He was Fremantle’s first selection (no. 4 overall) in the 2009 draft and has played 21 matches averaging 13 touches a game. The winner of this year’s Rising Star award will be announced on Wednesday.

Green: Melbourne looking to 2011

Despite their loss to North Melbourne yesterday, Melbourne forward Brad Green said that the defeat will spur them on to make finals in 2011. The Dee’s have taken out the wooden spoon in the last 2 seasons and will finish 12th in 2010.
We can win flag from seventh: Mitchell

Even though they finished seventh, Hawthorn skipper Sam Mitchell believes his side has the talent and experience to win the flag this season. The win against top team Collingwood ignited belief in the playing group and has made the quest for the flag look achievable. Hawthorn kick off their finals campaign on Saturday, playing against Fremantle at Subiaco.

Sacked Bombers coach Knights bites his tongue

Now former Essendon coach Matthew Knights addressed the media outside his house today in an attempt to gain peace for his family before the media conference to be held later this week. He had said that he did not want to speak to the media until everything had been finalised with the club.
