BARRY Hall unexpectedly turned up to Swans training on Wednesday night and was greeted with a hug from coach Paul Roos.

Hall, indefinitely suspended from playing until cleared by the club psychologist Grant Brecht, surprised both teammates and officials by returning to the club where only two days ago he was told that he would need to sort out personal issues before he could play again.

Fellow teammate Brett Kirk had alluded to the fact that Hall would be welcomed back to the fold sooner rather than later.

“Hall has a couple of days off to think about it and assess where he is at and decide upon a path to take,” Kirk said. “He loves training and playing and the footy club is where he is going to get all his support.

“The club is right behind him as are the players and we both fully support him. I think Barry is a good person with a bad habit and he needs to work his way through it so he can come back and know it won’t happen again.”

Hall received a one-match suspension for attempting to strike Collingwood’s Shane Wakelin during the second quarter of the match on Saturday night at ANZ Stadium following on from his seven-match suspension for striking West Coast Eagles player Brent Staker in round four.

It is still not known when Hall will play again but returning to training so soon is a step in the right direction.
