The 33-year-old pulled up well after the club's victory over the Pies last weekend despite missing the previous two weeks due to knee tendonitis.
"Post-game he said it was the best he’d pulled up," Evans said.
"We're so pleased that he's fit to play his 300th game."
Meanwhile Michael Osborne will miss another week after he sustained a corked buttock in Hawthorn’s round 18 clash against the Cats.
“He’s still got a fair bit of bruising… but we’re taking more of a safety first approach. We want to make sure that he’s perfectly right to play before we bring him back.”
Clinton Young is not named in the 22 despite returning from injury last week to play in the reserves. He was reported for charging in Box Hill’s 33-point victory over Casey Scorpions and accepted a one-week suspension, ruling him out of contention for the senior side.
Beau Dowler, Jarryd Morton and Travis Tuck are named as emergencies after impressing with Box Hill and Evans said that Dowler, in particular, has been impressive in recent weeks.
“He’s had four games in a row now where he’s been in Box Hill’s best players. So that’s fantastic to have such a consistent bit of form and if he keeps that up I’m sure an opportunity will come his way.”
Evans also heaped praise on ruckman Brent Renouf who did a good job on St. Kilda’s Michael Gardiner who lined up for Casey last weekend.
“He’s been really impressive over the past few months. Obviously he missed a couple of weeks due to suspension but his approach to it all has been great.”
Meanwhile forward Tim Boyle continues to struggle with injury. Still recovering from a groin injury, he rolled his ankle at training during the week and will have to be assessed.
Ben McGlynn is still recovering from a quad injury but Evans said that no decision had been made as to whether he would come back through the VFL.
“A lot will have to do with how the team is going and how Ben goes over the next two weeks.”
