Geelong Football Club will play a waiting game with star skipper Steven King, whose troublesome achilles tendon injury may keep him sidelined for the first six weeks of the season.

King sought more medical advice on the nightmare injury at the weekend after it flared up again early last week.

Media officer Kevin Diggerson was unsure when King would receive the results of the tests, but said it would be some time before the club made a decision on how best to treat the recurring problem.

``He has been seeing people about it but it is an issue of, rather than rushing into something quickly, taking time to determine the best course of action,'' Diggerson said.

``There's no timeframe on it because once you do that you tie yourself down to something that might not be the best outcome.''

King was unable to be contacted yesterday but is believed to be devastated with another interrupted season.

Football operations manager Garry Davidson said King was disappointed with the news but was coping well. ``He's frustrated that he can't be in the full training program. It's a frustration for any player in the rehab group and Steven is no different but he's working his way through it,'' Davidson said.

Meanwhile, new recruit David Loats has eased some of the Cats' rucking pain by recovering well from a back spasm suffered during Saturday's intra-club practice match.

Davidson said the 200cm tall had responded well to treatment and was set to share the rucking duties with Paul Chambers in Geelong's Wizard Cup opener against Port Adelaide on Saturday night in Cairns.

With King set to miss at least the Wizard Cup, the next month is important for the pair as they vie for the number two ruck role when King returns.
