EMERGING Crows star Jason Porplyzia could be a surprise selection for the team to take on the Swans this week just a fortnight after it was feared he’d miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

Porplyzia’s troublesome right shoulder popped out against Collingwood in round 15 and club doctors expected the exciting 22-year-old to require an immediate reconstruction.

But, after consulting with a surgeon, Porplyzia and the club decided rest was the best course of action and already the decision appears to have paid off.

Porplyzia trained at full-speed in Wednesday’s main training session and defender Kris Massie said the players didn’t hold back in testing his suspect shoulder.

"I wouldn't be surprised if Porps plays this week,” Massie said.

“In fact, Craigy mentioned out there on the field, 'if anyone wants to hold back from tackling, don't, drive him in and really test him out'.

“Craigy actually picked out Trucker (fullback Ben Rutten) to have a crack at him, so we're serious about Porps playing and the coaching staff will really consider him for an option up forward.

“Initially, when he had the injury, we all knew it was a toss-up whether he'd wait for the rest of the season or have an op, but he's really keen to go, which is a really pleasing thing for us.

“Not only has he got talent but it shows his attitude and keenness to get out there, and we need that at the moment, no doubt about that.”

Porplyzia would be a welcomed addition to the Crows forward line, which has struggled to kick goals in recent weeks and is already without enigmatic star Brett Burton.

Nick Gill, who kicked seven goals for North Adelaide in the SANFL last week, trained well and is also in the mix for selection, while Luke Jericho and Bryce Campbell were restricted to light duties after reporting general soreness from the Showdown just three days ago.
