The 2010 exchange period and father/son bidding meeting will now begin on Tuesday October 5, two days after Collingwood and St Kilda meet in the grand final re-match.
It had been scheduled to begin one day earlier.
The exchange period will still conclude at 2pm on Monday October 11, and will not be extended.
The seven-day trade period is still an extension from recent years, which saw trades officially commence on a Monday and finished on the Friday afternoon.
The change was made after a meeting of the AFL executive determined that the Magpies and Saints could not be expected to be ready for negotiations just two days after playing in a grand final.
This week’s AFL draft combine in Canberra has not been delayed, while several clubs have confirmed their best and fairest counts will go ahead as planned despite clashing with a second consecutive grand final week.
Collingwood was forced to postpone its best and fairest count, which had been scheduled for this Friday night.
This year’s trade period is expected to be vastly different than previous years as clubs factor in the arrival of Gold Coast Suns for the 2011 season.
