Since returning to Arden Street in 2004, Darren Crocker has become one of the most integral and most respected members of the club's football department.

That’s why it was little surprise when he was named the AFL’s number one assistant coach by his peers.

Brad Scott proudly presented the award to Crocker on Tuesday night with a field of over 60 in contention.

Responsible for North’s midfield and ruck division, Crocker has overseen the development of players such as Jack Ziebell, Ryan Bastinac, Todd Goldstein and Majak Daw.

In 2009 he was named caretaker coach after Dean Laidley stepped down and helped record a memorable win against the Saints late in the year.

At Aegis Park he's always been well respected, but this latest achievement shows just how much of an asset he is across the football industry.
