Injury paved the way for his debut in round one and Cameron Pedersen had an immediate impact.

Named North Melbourne's best first-year player at the Syd Barker Medal on Wednesday night, Pedersen made a dream start to his AFL career against Dean Cox in the season-opener and went on to play 14 games.

It's hard to overlook the 24 year-old as the greatest success story at Aegis Park in 2011. Rookie-listed, he made the transition from VFL level look easy with his performances as a pinch-hitter wherever Brad Scott found the team lacking.

He finished the season with 18 goals and eventually secured his spot.

With competition fierce from the likes of Kieran Harper and Shaun Atley, Pedersen took home the first of what hopefully will be many awards in the royal blue and white.
