“It’s certainly not something you concentrate on too much. The players know where they’re at and there’s no point in me threatening it. My mum used to threaten me with a wooden spoon, but it still didn’t change my behaviour.”
“I don’t think me threatening them is going to change the situation at all. There aren’t any new ways to motivate the players. They all know what they need to do.”
“Allan Jeans once said to Leigh Matthews that you can deep fry sausages, grill them, bake them, boil them and try to serve them up in different ways, but they’re still just sausages in the end.”
Voss on Xavier Clarke’s hamstring injury
“He tore his hamstring within about 16 minutes. As far as his preparation goes, he had been tracking along really well and had been training for a long period of time.”
“If we didn’t think he was ready to play, we wouldn’t have put him out there. He was certainly keen to go and is now very disappointed.”
“I think it’s only really going to cost him one week so that’s some good news from our end. Hopefully we can still get a couple of games into him before the season ends. But we’ve got to be careful at the same time.”
“That first game back after injury is always risky for every player. It’s a hard balance to get right.”
“Jed Adcock is probably in the same boat at the moment. We’ve got to make the assessment as to whether he comes straight back in or whether he hangs back another week. He’s been training for a while so he’s physically capable, but there is a definite step up from playing reserves to seniors.”
Voss on 100-gamer Daniel Merrett
“’Strawbs’ has been very important to this Club, even of late with the leadership he has shown in defence. He really pulls that back group together which hasn’t been without its challenges considering we’ve had a number of different guys play there throughout the year.”
“He’s been a rock for us in defence for a period of time.”
“He’s been quite resilient even though I know he’s missed games this year. Just having the big fella out on the field makes everyone walk a little bit taller.”
