Melbourne's pink-yoked playing jumpers aren't an attempt to raise money for charity, but an error in the manufacturing process, a club statement revealed today.

Unimpressed Demons fans inundated online forums with complaints about the jumpers, which the club wore for the first time in its NAB Cup wins at AAMI Stadium on Friday night.

In response, the club issued a statement at demonland.com explaining that the colouring on the jumpers was "an error" and is being fixed.

"The jumpers we played in on Friday night are not the correct colour," the statement said.

"The intention of the new jumper was to get the red to a deeper, blood like, red."

The statement said the colour issues are a result of "teething problems" with new apparel supplier New Balance.

The jumpers had already been recalled once previously to fix colour imperfections in the emblem and stars, and will now be recalled a second time, with the club optimistic of having the design perfected in time for round one of the home and away season.

But the bad news for Melbourne fans is that the pink jumpers will continue to be seen throughout the NAB Cup.

"The Club is acutely aware of the significance and importance of the jumper to our game," the statement said.

"We are bitterly disappointed to have to wear these jumpers for NAB Cup and we are doing all we can to rectify the situation for round one."

The Demons' were hoping to receive the improved jumpers earlier, but they are made in China and production has been heavily affected by Chinese New Year celebrations.
