The AFL Tribunal will not sit on Tuesday night after the three players charged from weekend matches all chose to accept the sanctions offered to them by the MRP.
As a result, West Coast Eagle Shannon Hurn will miss a fortnight after copping a two-week ban for engaging in rough conduct, while Essendon’s Courtenay Dempsey is free to play Carlton this Saturday night. He accepted a reprimand, with his charge of 93.73 points not enough to warrant a suspension.
Brennan’s suspension is a blow for the Lions, who meet the Power at AAMI Stadium in a clash between third and sixth.
The versatile left-footer accepted a one-game ban for bumping Carlton ruckman Matthew Kreuzer.
The suspension spares Brennan a return trip to the ground where he was involved in an ugly head butting incident - also against the Power - last year.
On Monday, Lions assistant coach Adrian Fletcher said Brennan knew there were lines that couldn’t be crossed and had learned from past indiscretions.
“He’s a mature man, he’s a leader of the footy club [and] he understands that you have to play inside the rules and the boundaries,” Fletcher said.
Hurn accepted a two-match sanction for engaging in rough conduct against Port Adelaide’s Paul Stewart.
His loss will also be felt by the Eagles, who are yet to register a win from two starts.
The long-kicking defender will miss matches against North Melbourne (Etihad Stadium) and Essendon (Subiaco) in the next fortnight.
The match review panel is still to review footage of Monday’s Hawthorn-Geelong clash, with any potential charges to be announced later on Tuesday.
