TWO-TIME All Australian Leon Davis has told the club he wants to play on as a Magpie in 2012.

The 30-year-old has been weighing up his future, and as recently as Grand Final week was undecided on whether he wanted to return to his home city, Perth, or play on with the Pies for a 13th season.

But the 225 gamer told the club he wanted to stay in the black and white for at least another year.

"Leon spoke with Nathan on the weekend and he's reconfirmed he wants to stay and play with Collingwood, so that's great," Collingwood football manager Geoff Walsh said on Monday morning.

After a disappointing end to 2010 where he was dropped for the Grand Final replay after a quiet performance in the draw, Davis was reinvented as a half back in 2011.

He averaged 22 possessions a game, earned his second All Australian guernsey and came fifth in the Pies' Copeland Trophy.

Best and fairest winner Scott Pendlebury said on Friday night the players hoped Davis would recommit himself to Collingwood for another season.

"Hopefully the feeling we created throughout the year that we almost had it will spur him on to go one more year," the vice-captain said.

"I think he's definitely got it in him, he's a fantastic half back now and he's got that real ability for us to change a game because he can go forward and he can go back.

"Hopefully he stays on because all the players want him to."

Walsh also said premiership defender Alan Toovey was "absolutely" a required player, and expected the Pies to be quiet during the trade period.

"Things can change quickly, particularly on a day like today when you're meeting with every other club and discussing what they may be looking for," he said.

"At this stage, I would say we aren't going to be very active at all."

"I don't think we're going to be aggressive or active [but] we'll respond to anything that is discussed by other clubs."

No trades are official until paperwork has been accepted by the AFL and formally recognised after 2pm on Monday, October 17.
