That's why he enjoys the relief a win brings.
It had been eight long weeks since Fremantle's last victory – against cross-town rival West Coast – and Pavlich said the 53-point win over North Melbourne in front of a home crowd was very welcome.
"As a human being sometimes it's nice to be rewarded," Pavlich said.
"It is relief, it's nice to get a bit of reward after being reasonably close for a long time."
Assistant coach Peter German floated the prospect of sweeping list changes for Fremantle mid-week, putting pressure on the club's middle-tier players to match the impressive standard set by fresh faces Rhys Palmer, Garrick Ibbotson and Chris Mayne.
Byron Schammer (21 possessions) and Brett Peake (22) were two that drove Fremantle's early breakaway and Pavlich said they were crucial to the team's improvement.
"That's where the improvement comes from," he said.
"We certainly think our senior guys set a reasonable enough standard each week, both from a training perspective and an on-field perspective.
"[The middle-tier guys] certainly today showed what they can do and let's hope they can maintain it."
While Palmer, Ibbotson and Mayne were down on their usual output, they set the tone early with a fearless attack on the football that belied their age and experience.
And it wasn't lost on their captain who, while pleased, wasn't stunned by what he saw.
"Not knowing them, no. It may surprise a few people but seeing them every day and training with them and understanding what they're about, it's not surprising at all," Pavlich said.
"It's great to see.
"[They] are going to be great players for us. Throw into that Robert Warnock and you get a really good young emerging group."
With so many winners over the ground, Pavlich said it was only natural the forwards would reap the rewards and praised his teammates' hard work up the field.
"We were able to sustain enough pressure on the opposition and then capitalise on winning the hard ball," he said.
"Our skill level today was a lot better. We've certainly been turning the ball over a lot the past couple of weeks but we were able to capitalise today and move it into a pretty open forward line.
"It's always nice to get on the end of stuff that's happening up the field."
