FOUR players will try to beat suspensions at the AFL tribunal tonight after choosing to fight charges laid by the match review panel.

Lion Joel Patfull, Hawthorn’s Brent Guerra, West Coast’s Quinten Lynch and young Bulldog Jordan Roughead have all chosen to contest charges laid from their weekend matches.

In total, five players will front the tribunal on Tuesday night, with Brisbane Lions skipper Jonathan Brown also trying to beat a tripping charge, although he isn’t risking a suspension.

Patfull has the most at stake. The Lions defender’s season could be over if his charge of engaging in rough conduct against Eagle Brett Jones is upheld by the tribunal. He could have accepted a two-week ban but will miss three games if found guilty.

Guerra (rough conduct) could have taken a one-match ban for his late, slinging tackle to Swan Nick Malceski but the Hawks have opted to fight the charge and are instead risking a two-match suspension.

Lynch (misconduct for kneeing) and young Bulldog Roughead (rough conduct) both could have taken reprimands, but will miss one week if found guilty.

Four other players - Essendon’s David Hille, Swan Kieren Jack, Eagle Brett Jones and Magpie Leigh Brown - avoided a meeting with the tribunal after choosing to accept their sanctions. All are free to play this weekend.
