MIDFIELDER David Mackay believes Adelaide is closing the gap on the best sides in the competition.

The Crows extended their winning streak to seven on Saturday night after disposing of cellar-dwellers Fremantle by a record 117 points at AAMI Stadium.

Adelaide’s opponent this week - St Kilda - also continued on its merry way overcoming West Coast at Subiaco to notch up win number 15.

The Crows fell short of the mark against the Saints in round two, but Mackay said his team was “better placed” to challenge the league leaders this time around.

“We’re looking forward to meeting St Kilda head-on… we think we’re ready for the challenge,” Mackay said on Monday.

“On the weekend, our ball movement and pressure on Freo was as good as it has been for a long time, so we’ll try and bring that forward to next week.

“We think we’re perfectly placed at the moment in terms of the way we’re going. We’re improving each week and we’re getting more confidence.”

Adelaide trailed the Saints by just five points at three-quarter-time when the two sides met at AAMI Stadium earlier this year.

But the Crows couldn’t withstand the pressure in the final term, losing by 32 points.

Mackay said his side had learned a lot from the “finals-like” clash.

“We were pretty pleased with a number of things we did in that [round two] game, but our last quarter was pretty poor and they ran all over us,” Mackay said.

“St Kilda’s pressure on the ball carrier was probably at a level we hadn’t experienced before. Their contested ball was also fantastic that night and has been ever since.

“But we think we’re improving in our ball movement and our skill execution, which at the start of the year was probably a bit down, especially against St Kilda when they really put us under that heat.”

Adelaide reported no new injuries from the demolition of Fremantle.

Ruckman Jon Griffin has recovered from a calf complaint, but is likely to come back through the SANFL as is Trent Hentschel (knee).

The Crows will hold their main training session at AAMI Stadium on Thursday before heading to Victoria on Saturday afternoon.
