LUCKLESS North Melbourne key position prospect Robbie Tarrant will miss the rest of the home and away season, the club has confirmed.

Tarrant will undergo a reconstruction on his left shoulder after falling awkwardly during a VFL Reserves match at the weekend.

Tarrant has a shocking history with shoulder injuries, having already had three reconstructions in three years.

Two of those operations, one on each side, have been performed since arriving at Arden Street as pick No.15 in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft.

North chief of football Donald McDonald said Saturday's game for Werribee Tigers was Tarrant's first for the season on his way back from a stress fracture in his knee and a shoulder reconstruction. He had been impressive in kicking 3.3 before being injured.

"He just fell on the shoulder out at Casey Fields, but until then he had been playing really well," McDonald said.

"But that's how the game goes sometimes."

In 2008, the 196cm forward dislocated his left shoulder early in the season while playing for North Ballarat.

He managed to return and play some VFL football late in the season and was an emergency in the Roosters’ grand final win over Port Melbourne.

But he injured his right shoulder early in this year's pre-season and faced another reconstruction.

While recovering from that injury he suffered the problem with his knee and had been unable to play until last weekend.

The Werribee Tigers went down to Casey in both the VFL and VFL Reserves on Saturday.
