CARLTON coach Brett Ratten is facing a selection dilemma ahead of Friday night's clash with North Melbourne.

The Blues escaped unscathed from last week's win over Melbourne, while Lachie Henderson, Brock McLean and Shaun Grigg were all outstanding in the VFL.

Ratten is also faced with a significant shortening of his injury list with Paul Bower, Chris Yarran, Kane Lucas and Dennis Armfield all cleared to play.

"There are a few headaches for us," Ratten said from Arden St on Wednesday morning.

"They are all ready to go but whether they play reserves or seniors, we'll have to sit down and look at the risk and make sure the reward is worth it."

Bower is the least likely of the seven to play against North, with Ratten looking to ease the important defender back through the VFL after an extended period on the sidelines with a quad injury.

The coach admitted he was currently spoilt for choice at the selection table, but was keen to point out that enviable scenario remains a weekly proposition.

"If you had asked me three weeks ago, we played three players that had played half a game of footy [in preparation] in three weeks, so we did have our injury concerns," he said.

"It's great that players are coming back, but we really have to manage our list going forward."

Carlton's depth is perhaps a little surprising given the developing nature of its list and Ratten pointed to the form of youngsters Kane Lucas, Simon White and Mitch Robinson as one of the keys to the healthy state of affairs.

Robinson came in for some scrutiny for his heated exchange with teammate Eddie Betts over the small forward’s consoling pat for Melbourne opponent Aaron Davey at quarter time at the weekend, which Ratten thought was "taken way out context".

The coach was more concerned about the lack of recognition from the NAB Rising Star selection panel for the fiery forward's excellent play.

"You just look at Mitch Robinson's form in his second year; he's going fantastically," he said.

"He got voted in the best by the two coaches last week and by the Herald Sun and still didn't make the Rising Star, which is quite interesting as well."

The Blues have defied expectations to sit comfortably in the eight on seven wins, but are yet to string together three wins this season. Friday's match is their third opportunity to do so, but Ratten was more concerned about continuity of effort.

"It's sort of been a little bit of a bogey for us trying to get that three in a row, but it's probably more about our momentum in the season," he said.

"It's a critical time for most teams and just to get that momentum and keep it going especially towards the break will be really important for both teams."

North will donate one dollar to the My Room initiative at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne for every supporter who goes through the turnstiles on Friday night and Ratten urged Blues fans to support the cause.
