Bio: Martin is a powerfully-built tall defender who impressed during a match against Tasmania in 2008 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.
Jason McCartney says: He is a 191cm key position player and during the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships the ball didn't get past him at centre half-back or full-back. He was really strong overhead and for his size showed excellent agility. He handballed more than kicked – I don't know if he's got a heap of confidence in his kicking – but he was the rock South Australia built its defence around.
SA U18 coach Brenton Phillips says: Matthew is a big, strong, aggressive backman and he's from Sacred Heart College which has produced a lot of good AFL footballers. He's very good athletically, is very quick off the mark for a man of his height and he kicks the ball really nicely.
