Sandringham Coach Andy Lovell gives his Round 13 update on the performance and development of the Melbourne listed VFL players, following disappointing losses by the senior and reserve teams.

Round 13 VFL Seniors
Sandringham 0.1 - 3.3 - 7.6 - 10.10-70
North Ballarat 4.4 - 6.9 - 10.12 - 12.14-86

Michael Newton
Playing at full forward, Michael took ten marks and kicked four goals, four behinds. For the second week in a row, he led up hard at the ball and his defensive pressure was good. He has let himself down slightly with his kicking at goal, but considering the difficult conditions for a tall forward, he played really well. Michael will be pressing for senior selection in the coming weeks.

Addam Maric
Addam played well, both in the midfield and as a crumbing forward. He had a good impact on the game, and kicked three goals, three behinds. His workrate was much better, and we thought he showed a marked improvement and responded well after his spell in the 'twos' the week before.

Tom McNamara
Tom started well, playing on the wing, and getting five early possessions. He then went into the backline, and struggled a little bit after his opponent kicked a goal. When Tom did get the ball, he displayed that he is a really good decision maker. We just need to work with Tom in improving the defensive part of his game, through both his intensity and workrate.

Daniel Bell
Daniel played at half back, and in the midfield. He had a good game defensively, but in wet and windy conditions, he probably didn’t use the ball as well as he could have. Overall, he defended well and was courageous, showing real aggression with his attack on the ball.

James Frawley
James played a really good game as a key defender. He played on North Melbourne's Corey Jones, and beat him. He defended really well, but also attacked the game. He gave us some really good run and drive off half back, and also used the ball well. He improved from last week, and this is the second week in a row that he has been good for us.

John Meesen
John played in the ruck, and it’s fair to say that it wasn’t one of his best days. He didn’t have an impact on the game, which we would have liked. He just needs to be more physical and use his running strength to be able to get more of the football.

Nathan Carroll
Nathan played well, filling the role of tall defender. He marked strongly, and was good defensively. In the final quarter, we pushed him forward and he kicked a goal to get us within six points. Again, Nathan had a really good solid, disciplined performance.

Ricky Petterd
Ricky started in the midfield, and didn’t have much of an impact on the game in the middle, turning the ball over more than we would have expected from him.  We moved him to half back and he defended really well. He also gave us a lot of rebounding attacking run from the back half. Overall, he started poorly, but looked a lot more comfortable and confident playing as a half back/defender.

Jake Spencer
Jake rotated with John Meesen in the ruck. We thought he rucked well, and worked hard to get front possession. His body work was good, and his aggression was also pleasing. He did struggle to get a lot of the footy, but he has been working hard on developing his running patterns, and they were a lot better on the weekend. We are seeing consistent improvement from Jake, which is a real positive.

VFL Reserves
North Ballarat 2.3 - 4.7 - 8.7 - 11.9-75
Sandringham 0.2 - 0.4 - 0.7 - 0.9-9

Jack Grimes
Jack had 21 possessions in a half of footy. He used the ball well, and his running patterns were good. It was just a really good solid performance for Jack, he showed he has the ability, he reads the play well and uses the ball effectively. He still needs to adapt to playing football and recovering effectively so that he doesn’t get sore. It is also really important that he is actually getting extended game time. In coming weeks, Jack will need to get his game time up to 100% in the 'twos' before he gets his chance at senior VFL football.

Isaac Weetra
Isaac had a good first half. His workrate was up, and his decision making was better. He was more positive with his attack on the footy. Unfortunately, in the second half his workrate dropped off and he faded out of the game.
