The under 17 team from Horsham will be bussed down to Melbourne courtesy of the local McDonald’s licensee, disembarking at one of Melbourne’s exclusive sporting venues and home to the Collingwood Football Club - the Lexus Centre.
Chris Chapple from the Horsham United Football Club said the team is floating on cloud nine in anticipation of the training session.
“This is a great chance for our junior players to learn the skills and techniques that got the Magpies to an elite level,” she said. “Many Horsham players have aspirations of making it to the big league so it’s incredible that McDonald’s can give them the opportunity to meet their sporting heroes.”
The 25-strong group will be kitted out with new training gear upon arrival at the Lexus Centre before receiving a motivating rev up from a member of the Magpies coaching staff. Following that, the group will get stuck in to a full training session with their football idols.
“McDonald’s is a great advocate for participation in local sports which is exemplified through our sponsorship of many clubs at a community level,” said McDonald’s Horsham licensee Mike Rodgers. “It’s fantastic that we are able to reward one of our own local teams with this priceless opportunity.”
After the session, the team will continue to rub shoulders with the players as they enjoy refreshments in the exclusive Collingwood Lexus Lounge.
The ‘Fly with the Pies’ competition invited Victorian junior football clubs in the under 13-17 age bracket to explain in 50 words or less why they believed their team should win the opportunity to meet and train with the Collingwood Football Club.
