AAMI Stadium will be a home that Power fans can fully embrace. That is the belief of Power chief executive John James following the announcement by Premier Mike Rann that his government will invest $100 million into redeveloping AAMI Stadium.

The significant announcement was made at AAMI Stadium on Sunday morning, with confirmation by the SANFL that the money would be used to ensure the stadium kept up with international standards.

James said not only would supporters benefit from an upgraded stadium, but most significantly they would benefit from the improved branding and financial structure of the stadium.

“We commend the State Government for their support of football, something that means so much to so many South Australians,” James said.

“The redevelopment of AAMI will enhance our supporters’ total experience at the football. The development includes substantially increased undercover seating, better amenities and a great opportunity to enjoy a completely refreshed Power football experience. The AAMI development is ultimately about better servicing the person who buys a ticket to the football.

“With substantially enhanced function rooms the redevelopment will also allow our club to run after-match presentations for more people than ever before.

“Most importantly for Power supporters our club has secured with this development an agreement to gain equal branding and land footprint to enable our supporters to embrace AAMI as our home ground.”

James continued, saying the club was still working through discussions regarding the branding and how the club would use the land allocated – with the likelihood that a facility would house a variety of services for Power supporters – but regardless he was confident it would be viewed very positively.

“We are determined to ensure with this Government investment an absolute Power feel to all our home games,” said James.

“AAMI Stadium has always been the Power’s home ground, but to our supporters it has not always felt like our home, and we are confident that with the redevelopment this will no longer be the case.”

Also critical in the negotiations by the club with the State Government and the SANFL was the ability to gain a better financial result from the stadium.

“The club will also will benefit from increased revenue shares from income growth via the development,” said James.

“This is critical for our future financial sustainability as stadium models are the make or break of an AFL clubs financial success.”

Key focus areas for the AAMI Stadium Redevelopment based on the Government’s contribution over three years are as follows:

- Enhance the roof for improved comfort for spectators during inclement weather;
- Further improve dining, bar and toilet facilities;
- Build a new convention centre and Western Grandstand upgrade;
- Improve the stadium entrances;
- Build new corporate suites;
- Undertake works surrounding the stadium to improve movement, safety and its outlook;
- Expand administration offices; and
- Provide Port Adelaide Football Club with merchandising and satellite offices.
