BRISBANE Lions forward Luke McGuane has failed in his bid to overturn a rough conduct charge and will now pay a $1500 fine for his dangerous tackle on Carlton's Kade Simpson.

McGuane, who has not received a strike this season, fronted the Tribunal on Tuesday night and argued he had become tangled with Simpson, causing the players to lunge forward.

AFL counsel Jeff Gleeson QC said McGuane's tackle was unreasonable because of a second driving action and because it continued after Simpson disposed of the ball.

"It's inherently dangerous to have a player whose arms are pinned … to be driven head first in that way," Gleeson told the Tribunal.

"It was a separate motion, effectively propelling him or throwing him into the ground face first.

"It wasn't a case where McGuane couldn't stop himself. All he had to do was relax or release his arms."

McGuane, who was represented by Gavin Handran and appeared via video link, said he did not realise Simpson had already disposed of the ball.

"I didn't drive him into the ground … I don't see how I drove him into the ground when I dropped to my knees," he said.

"I was trying to pull him to the side, but he lands on his left leg, which propels us forward.

"I'm not going to let go of him if I don't think he's got rid of the ball."

The Tribunal is set for a marathon sitting on Tuesday evening, with Chris Masten and Alex Silvagni facing lengthy bans after being referred straight to the Tribunal on respective biting and striking charges, while Jack Ziebell and Nathan Brown have accepted their one-match bans by the AFL's Match Review Panel.

West Coast's Masten was charged with misconduct following an incident with Fremantle's Nick Suban in the third quarter of the Eagles' win at Domain Stadium on Sunday, while Docker Silvagni's striking charge came after he elbowed West Coast's Jamie Cripps in the head off the ball in the second quarter.

North Melbourne vice-captain Ziebell was found guilty of striking Saint Jack Newnes high with a late spoiling attempt in the third quarter at Blundstone Arena on Saturday.

Ziebell's action was classified as careless conduct with medium impact to the head, attracting a two-match sanction that he has reduced to one match with an early plea, announced by the Roos on Tuesday morning.

Collingwood defender Brown was found guilty of rough conduct after collecting Swan Luke Parker with a forceful bump in the second quarter at the SCG on Friday night.

Brown's bump was classified as careless conduct with medium impact to the head. Like Ziebell, Brown's two-game suspension was reduced to one with an early plea.

Both Ziebell and Brown risked two-match bans if they had challenged the MRP's findings.

Richmond star Brett Deledio is free to play Collingwood on Saturday after being offered a $1000 fine for striking Gold Coast's Aaron Hall in the second quarter at the MCG last Sunday.

Port Adelaide pair Jackson Trengove and Justin Westhoff have also been offered $1000 fines following the Power's win over Greater Western Sydney.

Trengove was charged with misconduct against Rory Lobb during the second quarter of last Saturday's match, while Westhoff was charged with engaging in rough conduct against Jeremy Cameron during the fourth quarter.
