The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has assessed the following incidents from the weekend's round of matches. 

Charges Laid:        

Max Rooke, Geelong, has been charged with a Level Three engaging in rough conduct offence against Sam Power, North Melbourne, during the second quarter of the Round 21 match between Geelong and North Melbourne, played at Skilled Stadium on Sunday August 24, 2008. 

In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.

The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), high impact (three point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of one match suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 10 per cent to 247.50 points. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 185.63 points and a one-match sanction.

Michael Firrito, North Melbourne, has been charged with making an obscene gesture during the fourth quarter of the Round 21 match between North Melbourne and Geelong, played at Skilled Stadium on Sunday August 24, 2008.

In summary, he can accept a $900 sanction with an early plea.

A first offence for making an obscene gesture is a $1200 sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a $900 sanction.

Other Incidents Assessed:        

The match day report against Adelaide's Chris Knights for engaging in rough conduct against St Kilda's Shane Birss was assessed. It was the view of the panel the contact was caused by circumstances outside the control of Knights which he could not have reasonably foreseen, in that player Knights was pushed from behind. No further action was taken.

  • Contact between Essendon's Mark McVeigh and the Western Bulldogs' Brad Johnson from the second quarter of Friday's match was assessed. It was the view of the panel the impact was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
  • Contact between Fremantle's Jeff Farmer and Richmond's Shane Ewards from the third quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. It was the view of the panel the impact was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken. 
  • Contact between Carlton's Cameron Cloke and the Brisbane Lions' Luke Power from the second quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. Power was running in front of, and to the side, of the ball carrier for Carlton. Cloke stepped in front of Power and made contact with the right side of his body. The action was considered a block and the amount of force was not considered unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.
  • Contact between Hawthorn's Brent Renouf and West Coast's Quinten Lynch from the first quarter of Sunday's match was assessed. Renouf went to push off Lynch in a contest. At the same time, Hawthorn's Sam Mitchell dragged Lynch to the ground. Mitchell's action contributed to the high contact on Lynch. No further action was required.
  • Contact between Hawthorn's Sam Mitchell and West Coast's Ashley Hansen from the second quarter of Sunday's match was assessed. It was the view of the panel that Mitchell's action was not a strike. Contact was made with an open hand in a grabbing / tackling motion. No further action was required.
