SYDNEY Swans co-captain Adam Goodes says his pre-draft faith in exciting teammate Lewis Jetta has been justified by the latter's electrifying pre-season cameos.

Goodes lobbied the Swans' recruiters heavily in the lead-up to the 2009 NAB AFL Draft to select Jetta, a speedy indigenous winger from WAFL club Swan Districts.

The club duly picked him at No.14 and the 21-year-old shone in his first NAB Cup outing against Carlton at Blacktown Olympic Park.

Goodes said he was confident that Jetta's football career could be "anything" after a promising pre-season.

"Seeing a bit of footage of him before, you know that he can definitely play the game and if he gets a bit of confidence up ... then he can make anything happen," Goodes said before training on Wednesday.

"You saw in that first game what he can do when he does turn his pace on, and he's got great skills as well."

Jetta said he was initially taken aback by the public's excitement about his opening games and his run-and-gun style of play.

"It was weird at first. I didn't think I'd be starting off like that. I was just happy to get on the ground and get my first kick," he said, before conceding he was quietly confident of reaching the required standard.

"Back home, playing for Swan Districts in the league, I stepped up another level playing good pretty quickly and I got used to the pace," he said.

"After that, I was chosen to play in the state side and I stepped up again to another level and played pretty good again, so hopefully I can do the same in the AFL."

Jetta also paid tribute to Goodes' positive influence during the pre-season as the young midfielder battled inevitable bouts of homesickness by focusing on his football.

However, Jetta will enjoy some family time on Wednesday when he joins 12 of his Swans teammates in receiving their inaugural jumpers at the club's presentation night.

Goodes said he had fond memories of his first presentation night before the 1998 season.

"We didn't really train in Swans jumpers back then and to get up there and get your first jumper and have a little smell of it - it sort of does tell you that the season is only a couple of weeks away and you look forward to that happening," he said.

"[With] the excitement that all the new players have brought to the game, especially Lewis with his pace and his long right foot kicking, I'm very excited that we could have four or five new players playing their first game for this football club in round one.

"It definitely makes us older guys more enthused about the way the team's looking, especially with our form in the pre-season."
