THAT Peter Burgoyne is a star is beyond doubt, and he produced another stellar performance on the big stage on Saturday night.
Despite the Dream Team losing to the Victorians by 17 points, Burgoyne was brilliant with 36 touches, including 14 in the first, a season-high for any player in a term.
The 30-year-old said he had a great time during the several days the team was together.
"It was a lot quicker than a normal game, so that was probably the main thing - it was pretty free-flowing," he said.
"It's something that I'll never forget, playing with the best players in Australia, and against the best players – it'll probably never happen again.
"It was awesome – the best players in Australia, so you can't get any better than that."
The team came together midweek as they prepared for the clash, and Burgoyne said it had benefits that would stretch well into the future.
"It was really good – I made some good friends I'll probably keep for life, so that's probably the best thing about it."
And despite admitting he didn't expect a similar match in the future, Burgoyne joined the chorus of players calling for State of Origin or the like to make a regular appearance on the AFL calendar.
"I'd like to see State of Origin come back – I don't think it will – but it'd be awesome if they brought it back every couple of years."
Burgoyne's 36 disposals were by far the most on the ground, and Dream Team coach Mark Williams seemed utterly underwhelmed that his Port Adelaide charge wasn't rewarded for his performance with the Allen Aylett Medal for best on ground when he was asked about the performance of winner Brendan Fevola, who booted six for the winners.
"Ahhh look, it seemed to me like he marked the ball when it got down there," he said. "I thought Peter Burgoyne was outstanding, myself."
