Speaking to the media on Monday, McPharlin said the club was focusing on the positives that have come out of its past few matches as it begins to prepare to face St Kilda this Friday night.
“Obviously we’re not thrilled at the start we’ve had to the year, but it’s a long year,” McPharlin said.
“We’ve got to take the positives out of the weekend and out of the last few weeks and we move forward.
“We have been contesting the footy pretty well – we’re throwing ourselves in there.
“Solly (Dean Solomon) over the weekend had 13 tackles, so we’re certainly having a go.
“Our defence as a whole is holding up reasonably well at the moment and that’s something we take the positive out of,” he said.
“But I don’t think we’ll be satisfied until we start winning and stringing games together, in terms of results.
McPharlin said the team remained united, saying it would take a full team approach to help turn the season around.
“We’re all in this together, it’s one in all in” McPharlin said.
“Chris (Connolly) is doing his best (and) the players are doing their best.
“We all bear the responsibility of how we perform.”
Fremantle will play its only home Friday night match this weekend, with the clash against St Kilda doubling as the opening fixture in the AFL’s Indigenous Round.
The AFL introduced the Indigenous Round to the 2007 fixturing to celebrate the contribution of Indigenous players to the game, along with recognising the role the game has played in building bridges between cultures.
It is significant that Fremantle is opening the round on Friday night as the club has eight Indigenous players, the most listed at one time in VFL/AFL history.
With Fremantle hosting the opening match of the round, McPharlin said the team was looking forward to “come out firing” against the Saints in front of the purple army.
“A Friday night game at Subiaco is going to be great,” he said.
“We look forward to playing in the big games because they are the ones you have to win.
“The guys are pretty excited about it.”
