The medium-sized forward kicked three goals in NSW/ACT's 25-point win over Queensland, and marked strongly – five of his eight grabs were contested.
He had 15 disposals and six inside 50s and was rated one of NSW/ACT's best by its coaching staff.
AFL talent and international manager Kevin Sheehan said Sargeant was a livewire up forward.
"His work rate inside 50 – he just kept presenting," Sheehan said.
"He took some great contested marks and that made him a real standout in the game, as the go-to player. We've seen him play through the midfield and in defence in the TAC Cup, but he was the bright spark that they needed."
Hailing from Lavington in southern NSW, Sargeant is studying year 12 in Albury and also plays for Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup.
And Sargeant isn't the only player from that squad in the NSW/ACT team, with Dylan McNeil, Liam Johnson, Josh Hamilton, Anthony Miles and Tim Segrave among the other Bushrangers featuring.
While modest in assessing his own performance, Sargeant was delighted with his team's first-up win.
"[I] kicked a few goals, so it was all right. It's great to be a part of it (the championships)," he told afl.com.au.
"We moved the ball pretty quick down the corridor, straight to our advantage [which helped me]."
Although he models his game on Sydney Swans premiership player Ryan O'Keefe, Sargeant barracks for Essendon, and grew up idolising James Hird.
But football isn't the only sport he excels at, having represented NSW in water polo.
"I've played open men's for NSW country, but I've chosen footy and keep doing [water polo] in summer," Sargeant said.
"But I've always grown up playing footy."
