The 23-year-old finished the season out of contract and had been the centre of trade speculation given his Victorian background.
But the Eagles have confirmed that Rosa, who played 20 matches in 2010 to bring his career tally to 90, has re-signed in a boost for coach John Worsfold’s hopes of developing a strong young group of players.
“He needed some time to just think it through,” general manager of football operations Neale Daniher told afl.com.au on Wednesday.
“He’s re-committed to us and we’re just really happy about it.”
Rosa joined the Eagles with pick 29 in the 2004 NAB AFL Draft.
“He’s an important player for us,” Daniher said.
“He’s [played] close to 100 games [and] he’s coming to the best part of his career.
“We’ve got a very young team and we don’t have many 100-gamers, let alone 150 or 200.
“He’s been at the club five or six years, so he brings some leadership to our young blokes.”
While likely to want to use their early draft picks, West Coast is likely to be active in trade week, with youngsters Ben McKinley and Matt Spangher both having asked for trades.
