Winning 10 games in a row is not that common in AFL football. There are so many things that have to fall a teams way to put a streak like that together that it is an effort to be savoured.

The league was formed in 1897, and from inception until the end of the 2006 season, Geelong had put together nine such winning runs of 10 or more games.

In the four and a half seasons since, the Cats have achieved the feat no fewer than five times.

Geelong has won 15 consecutive games in 2007 (from round six to round 20), 12 in 2008 (from round 22, 2007 to round eight, 2008), 15 again in 2008 (from round 10 to the preliminary final), 13 in 2009 (from round one to round 13) and now the opening 10 of this season.

While this team has broken all sorts of records and delivered two flags in that period, the effort, determination and let’s face it an ounce of luck, that is required to back up week after week and win speaks volumes for this team.

Chris Scott has regularly stated that he is lucky to have inherited a group of players that simply refuse to lower their standards and determination to succeed.

Geelong is now the only club with 14 streaks of 10 or more wins, moving ahead of Carlton who has 13.
