Despite kicking fewer goals than their opposition, Hawthorn escaped with a 12-point win on Sunday night as a relentless Tiger outfit tested their goal-scoring depth.

It was Luke Hodge, Shane Crawford, and Rick Ladson who eventually proved too much, providing their team overdue, quality delivery into the forward line.

With his partner in crime forgetting his kicking boots, Jarryd Roughead steered the inaccurate Hawks home with 5 majors – the final two sealing the win deep in the final quarter.

Cyril Rioli and Michael Osborne also provided first-rate assistance up forward, capping their performances off with two goals apiece.

The 6-0 Hawks now sit second on the AFL ladder having shown they can kick a winning score despite little influence from their spearhead, Lance Franklin.
