Fantasia said the Dogs would hold discussions with the Cats on Tuesday and were hopeful of an early deal.
"He's certainly a player we'd love to bring to our footy club, but of course there's a lot of boxes that need to be ticked by both clubs and the player," he told Trade Week Radio on Tuesday morning.
"There are two or three players that we've spoken to clubs already about and we're hoping today that we can progress some of those discussions."
Fantasia also confirmed the Dogs, who have a small forward and a young key position player on their shopping list, were interested in Brisbane Lions' midfielder Justin Sherman.
"He's a player that's still under contract and that's where clubs get an opportunity to drive that process," he said.
"We're in discussions with Brisbane over a number of players and a fair bit of water needs to go under the bridge on that count."
He said the Dogs' "reasonably mature" group meant the club was close to the limit of its salary cap, which would be significant during trade week.
He was also asked about out-of-favour Andrejs Everitt, who played 12 games this season and was dropped for the finals.
"He's a contracted player to us and we think he's got enormous upside," he said.
"He's developing like a lot of players on our list and I've got no doubt he's in for 22 games next year because that's the steps he seems to be taking."
Fantasia said the contracted Josh Hill, who also struggled to hold his spot, was "a very exciting prospect" who would naturally generate interest from rival clubs.
"You can understand why clubs have got an interest in those types of players and we'll evaluate all of that throughout the week," he said.
"Either way, we agree there's some real talent amongst those sorts of players."
Club president David Smorgon said the Bulldogs would be very aggressive in trade week at the best and fairest count on Friday night.
Fantasia also confirmed the Bulldogs nominated highly-rated Calder Cannon pair Tom Liberatore and Mitch Wallis as father-son draftees last week.
"We've had the good fortune of having them come and visit once a month over the last 18 months so we've got to know them and they've got to know the place pretty well," he said.
The father-son bidding process will take place on Tuesday morning with other clubs - excluding Gold Coast - invited to bid for the young players, which will ultimately determine which draft picks the Bulldogs will need to use to secure them.
