NORTH Melbourne remains tight-lipped on the future of Josh Gibson after media reports on Wednesday night linked the defender to a post-season move to Hawthorn.

Channel Ten said that Gibson had walked out on the Roos and had been offered a three-year deal by the Hawks worth $800,000.

North Melbourne chief of football Donald McDonald confirmed the club was in negotiations with Gibson and his management but would not be drawn on speculation the out-of-contract 25-year-old wanted to leave.

"He's a required player and that's it," McDonald said.

Gibson has played 65 games for North since his 2006 debut, including all 22 this season.

Selected by the club as a 20-year-old in the 2005 NAB AFL Rookie Draft, Gibson had caught the eye of recruiters with his performances as a forward for then-VFL affiliate Port Melbourne.

Channel Ten also reported Gibson was currently holidaying in Los Angeles.
