CAMPBELL Brown has a score to settle with Lance Franklin and hopes his former Hawthorn teammate returns from a hamstring injury to play Gold Coast on Sunday.

Although Franklin is one of the most devastating players in the competition, Brown has a long memory and wants a little redemption following an incident between the two last year.

Brown left the Hawks at the end of 2010 and in the only time he has played them since, round 13 last season, Franklin gave him a physical reminder of what he was missing out on.

"Buddy got me a ripper (hit) in the back pocket, I remember that, and hope he plays, hope he comes back from his hammy," Brown said with a laugh on Wednesday morning.

"I didn't play that well, so I'm pretty keen to make amends."

Franklin has missed the past five matches since injuring his hamstring against Greater Western Sydney in round 15.

Brown won a premiership with the Hawks in 2008 and said he treated it like "just another game" but admitted the texts had been flowing from his former teammates.

"They've texted me already telling me I'm in the gun and they're going to put some work into me. Nothing I don't expect," he said.

"Hopefully it's a fantastic game for us, they're one of the benchmarks of the competition."

Gold Coast is coming off its second win of the season after defeating GWS last Saturday and despite a crippling injury toll, is hoping to test the Hawks.

They played on the MCG just two weeks ago and were blown away by Melbourne in the first quarter with six unanswered goals and never recovered.

Brown said he had "absolutely no regrets" leaving Hawthorn despite the struggles of the Suns and the success of the Hawks in the past two years.

"I knew they were in that premiership window and were a chance last year or this year to contend, so you make that decision and once you have that's final and no regrets at all," he said.

The 28-year-old has one more season on his contract and said it might be his last in the AFL.

"We'll see how we go after that. I'd be very surprised if I go on," he said.
