To be involved in something like last week’s win over Port Adelaide was just a great feeling.

No-one gave us a chance of winning at three quarter time and while we’ve been going okay, it will give us a real kick along and the confidence a real pick-up.

It was amazing being out there because it all seemed to happen so quickly.

I remember looking at the scoreboard and seeing that we were a long way behind, and then it only seemed like minutes later we only five points behind.

Our midfielders started to really win the ball in the contests and the forwards started to find space.

The rain that came just before three-quarter-time was pretty heavy although I’m not sure if it was a bad as what people tell me it looked like on TV.

The ball was like a bar of soap for a little while but the ground at AAMI Stadium is in such good condition that it didn’t make handling too difficult after the rain slowed.

The thing that struck me was the cold that came with it.

I got taken to the interchange bench just as it started, so I was out of the heaviest part, but it was freezing down there – with instances like that you’re often better off being out on the ground and running around to keep warm.

Leigh didn’t say anything out of the ordinary to us at three-quarter-time, he just reiterated what he had said at quarter and halftime, and that was that we weren’t playing as badly as what the scoreboard said.

Port had a hard game the week before and it’s amazing the negative thoughts that can creep into your mind when a team comes at you like we did to them.

As good as the comeback was, we’ve been very average with our first quarters this season and it is something we have to turn around.

Our first 15 minutes in particular haven’t been good.

It’s not as if we aren’t going out there prepared either. We’re ready to go, it just hasn’t been happening for us.

It’s not something that is easy to put your finger on as to why, but I’m sure it’s something we will all be discussing and working through during the week.

From a personal viewpoint, I’m still working into the season myself.

I’m not overly rapt with my form and I’m still working really hard towards getting where I want to be.

I still feel like I’m getting match fit – up until a few seasons ago I felt like I was right from the start but the last couple it has felt like it takes me 4-5 weeks to get match fit.

We’ve got a tough few weeks ahead of us, which is nothing new because it is a really tough competition with a lot of teams on the way up.

I’m still confident though with the group we’ve got that we can push for the finals.
