The Western Victorian Cup celebrates not so much a clash of traditional rivals as long time icons.

The Geelong and Western Bulldogs Football Clubs play an enormous role in the wider community of country Victoria’s Western District and Melbourne’s Western suburbs respectively.

Origin Energy, who sponsors the event and eagerly promotes the battle for the west, supports the concept of a cup to recognise the synergy of the two clubs and reward the winning team.

Through Origin Energy’s innovation the West has become One. The Cats and the Bulldogs have over two thirds of their member households connected to Origin Energy.

Over the past three (including this season) Bulldogs and Cats members have received over $1,500,000 of energy rebates as a result of continuing their club membership.

Bulldogs Captain Brad Johnson said, “Membership is the lifeblood of both the Cats and Dogs. Origin Energy is rewarding our members and helping to create off field club financial sustainability. Now Origin is helping create a sustainable environment supplying Green Power, they have my support”.

But come Saturday there will be no common ground.

Geelong leads the Origin Energy Western Victorian Cup honor board 2-1 and the Western Bulldogs will be eager to extend their winning streak.

Origin Energy not only makes it easier for Bulldogs and Cats fans to afford club membership it is supplying 80,000 businesses and households with Green Power. Switching to Green Power is a simple step to reduce greenhouse pollution. By choosing 100% Green Power, households can collectively cut their own greenhouse emissions by seven to eight tonnes each year, the equivalent of removing two cars from Victoria’s roads.
