THE AFL will reveal its decision on the 2012 Brownlow Medal on Tuesday afternoon after Jobe Watson relinquished the honour last week.

The Commission will meet in Melbourne to come to its verdict on the medal, where it could award it to joint runners-up Sam Mitchell and Trent Cotchin.

It is expected the announcement will be made after 4.30pm AEDT.

The League's governing body could also decide to leave 2012 without a Brownlow Medal winner following Watson's announcement last week he had chosen to return the medal.

A media release by the AFL confirmed Commission chairman Mike Fitzpatrick and chief executive Gill McLachlan would front the media on Tuesday afternoon following its resolution.

The Essendon captain won the medal with 30 votes in the season of the Bombers' disastrous supplements program.

He was one of 34 past and present Bombers who were suspended for this season by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in January.

The players' appeal to the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland was dismissed last month, leaving the AFL to announce it would make a decision on Watson's medal on November 15.

The 31-year-old, who has played 200 games for the Bombers and been captain since 2010, said last week that the negative impact of the saga "should not define" the players involved.

"It is with mixed emotions that I have decided to hand back my 2012 Brownlow Medal," he said in a statement.

"It is now up to the AFL Commission at their meeting on Tuesday to make a decision as to what they want to do with it."
