Hawthorn assistant coach, Todd Viney, has ended speculation surrounding his immediate coaching future, informing the Melbourne Football Club he would not be applying for the club’s vacant senior coach’s position.

Viney said the decision not to pursue a senior coaching position either with Melbourne or any of the other current vacant AFL senior post would not rule him out of pursing this ambition in the future. However, the opportunity to continue to work with Hawthorn’s talented young list the major contributing factor for Viney.

“I am totally focused on my role as an assistant coach at Hawthorn and continuing to have a hand in developing Hawthorn’s young list,” he said.

“The timing isn’t right for me, coaching an AFL club is a huge responsibility and I’m still learning and gathering experience.

“I am committed to helping Hawthorn Football Club secure its tenth premiership,” Viney said.
