Scott Thompson’s standout 2011 season continues to be recognised with a top 10 finish in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year award.

Held in Melbourne on Tuesday night, Carlton’s Marc Murphy won the award with 94 votes ahead of teammate and Blues Captain Chris Judd.

Thompson finished eighth with 74 votes, one ahead of North Melbourne’s Daniel Wells.

West Coast Eagles Coach John Worsfold was announced as the AFLCA’s Allan
Jeans Senior Coach of the Year, an award won by former Crows coach Neil Craig in 2005.

Fremantle’s Nathan Fyfe took out the Best Young Player award, the second year in succession a Fremantle player has won the award after Stephen Hill in 2010.
