Bring on the Cats!

Conno, Driver and Sugarfoot, the three loyal panellists from Magpie Radio’s acclaimed one-eyed match preview show Pie Night, are unbelievably excited about Friday night's preliminary final blockbuster.

As they have done every week during season 2007 for the world's greatest one-eyed match preview show, the boys came together to discuss the scintillating semi-final victory in Perth, and look ahead to the clash with the Cats, in a not-to-be-missed show for every fired up Magpie fan.

“They are playing the game, contrary to what people might have read,” exclaimed Sugarfoot.

“Yeah, we haven’t just tossed it in,” added Conno.

“Haven’t they just handed it to Geelong?” Driver enquired.

“There is one factor that’s going to stop that, and that is the Collingwood team, Friday night,” were the fighting words of Conno.

Sugarfoot had his say on why the underdog Magpies can overcome the flag favourites at the MCG.

“There are so many reasons why we’re going to win this game, it’s hard to know where to start, but clearly Josh Fraser coming back into the side is a huge in.

“Chris Bryan did a good job last week against Cox and helping out Stretch, but Josh is in for a huge game. I think Travis Cloke is going to have a massive game, and Sean Rusling will fire up.”

Then it was Driver’s turn to look ahead to the game.

“The basis that we’re going to build this victory around is that we are a team.

“We are going to play team football, and we showed that last week, how we can rotate eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve players through the midfield, and lose no intensity.

“Geelong are interested in celebrating a premiership win, we are interested in winning a match, that’s what we’re going to be about, and another factor that is going to play to our advantage is the big crowd.

“It’s not going to be like the grand final, with corporates rolling up to eat their canapés and sip their cocktails.

“This is going to be 100,000 mad fans, about 75,000 of them Collingwood fans, and if that can’t lift the team, nothing will. It’s not 20,000 at Skilled Stadium, it’s passionate fans willing our players to victory.”

Not to be outdone, Conno, as always, had his learned opinion to offer.

“We’ve got a great mix of players. We’ve got Nathan Buckley, Scott Burns, Jimmy Clement, Shane Wakelin, all of these players who can now very much see the preliminary final leading into the grand final.

“And we’ve got the young kids, that know what it’s like to play in front of hundreds of thousands of people, and to have that mix is pretty exciting.”
