PORT Adelaide has secured 2008 premiership ruckman Brent Renouf from Hawthorn, in exchange for pick 33 in this year's NAB AFL Draft.
Renouf played 52 games for the Hawks after debuting in 2008, but managed only seven senior games in 2011 after surgery to remove his gall bladder.
His best performance this season was against the Power at AAMI Stadium in round seven, when he booted three goals.
In announcing the trade, Port Adelaide football operations manager Peter Rohde described the 23-year-old as an "elite runner".
"Brent fits exactly into the age profile that we are building our next premiership team around," Rohde said.
"We think we've got a unique upside with Brent, who is young, but with a mature body and valuable experience that we can build on for a long time to come."
Hawks football operations general manager Mark Evans indicated that Renouf had expressed a desire to leave the club.
"With several ruckmen on our list, Brent thought it was in his best interests to explore opportunities elsewhere and we wish him all the best at Port Adelaide," Evans said.
No trades are official until paperwork has been accepted by the AFL and formally recognised after 2pm on Monday, October 17.
